The Beauty Behind Our Jewellery: 100% Recycled Brass and Real Gold Plating
Another MotherAt Another Mother, we believe that true beauty lies not only in the design of our jewellery but also in the materials we choose. Our commitment to sustainability and quality drives us to create pieces that are as kind to the planet as they are stunning to wear. That's why all our jewellery is crafted from 100% recycled brass and finished with 100% recycled real gold plating.
Why Recycled Brass?
Brass is a timeless material cherished for its durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. However, traditional brass production can have a significant environmental impact. By using 100% recycled brass, we reduce the need for new mining, decrease waste, and minimize our carbon footprint. Recycled brass is sourced from discarded items like old plumbing fixtures, musical instruments, and other brass goods, giving new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste. Brass is a material that can be recycled infinitely without ever losing it's characteristics and qualities. Recycling brass allows for lower water consumption and reduces other environmental impacts.
The Gold Standard: Real Gold Plating
Each piece of our jewellery is adorned with a layer of 100% recycled real gold plating, ensuring a luxurious finish that stands the test of time. We use high-quality gold to provide a rich, radiant hue that complements any outfit. Gold plating not only enhances the beauty of our designs but also offers a more affordable option compared to solid gold jewellery, making luxury accessible to everyone as well as maintaining an enviromentally concious ethos. We plate our jewellery with 2 microns of real gold; a much more durable level compared to the big household names who tend to use 1 - 1.5 microns which wears away much quicker. By manufacturing with a thicker plating your jewellery not only lasts longer but you're spending more to spend less in the long run.

The Fresh Water Pearl
At Another Mother we use real pearls, also known as fresh water pearls, which literally means pearls from fresh water pearl farms. This method of farming uses practices that protect ecosystems, support ethical labour and minimise environmental impact.
The farms provide a clean environment for the molluscs to inhabit and pearls are extracted without harming the living creature housing the stone. Farms like these also ensure a healthy mollusc population is maintained and is much more ethical and environmentally friendly than manufacturing glass or plastic faux pearls. Not to mention the aesthetic benefits of a real natural stone vs the man-made version.
